Illustrious tall ship S/V Kaskelot sailing to Cornwall for the Falmouth Classics event this June

The Tilley Endurables Falmouth Classics 2018 is proud to announce the participation of the stunning tall ship S/V Kaskelot during this summer’s event (22 – 24 June 2018).

Kaskelot, a magnificent three-masted barque, will be seen under sail in the Carrick Roads just prior to the Parade of Sail and Power, which takes place on Sunday 24th June in Falmouth Harbour the Carrick Roads. The Parade of Sail and Power is for vessels over 20’ and will be led by two Royal Navy P2000 patrol vessels, HMS Charger and HMS Biter. The parade is expected to attract around 200 classic boats, making this a spectacular event not to be missed.

For a chance to sail on-board this glorious tall ship, Kaskelot will be running ticketed day sails from 24th – 27th June. For further information, please visit kaskelotfalmouth.eventbrite.co.uk

Jessie Atkinson, Ship Operations Manager for Kaskelot, says:

“Kaskelot and her crew are very pleased to be sailing to Cornwall for the Falmouth Classics this June. We’re looking forward to seeing all the other classic boats and taking in the sights and sounds of both the Falmouth Classics and the International Sea Shanty Festival.”

John Davison, Chairman of the Falmouth Classics Association, says:

“We’re delighted to have such a prestigious tall ship taking part in this year’s Falmouth Classics. Kaskelot is a beautiful example of a well-maintained tall ship and will make a spectacular backdrop to the racing, as well as a wonderful ship to view during the Parade of Sail and Power.”

Originally built as a traditional Baltic Trader in 1948 by J. Ring-Andersen for the Royal Greenland Trading Company at the Svendborg Shipyard in Denmark, Kaskelot will be turning 70 this year.

She worked as a support vessel for fisheries in the Faroe Islands in the 1960s, before being purchased by Square Sail and converted to her current state with a double topsail. Under her existing owners, this elegant tall ship has also recently undergone major restoration to an extraordinarily high standard, retaining many of the original features.

Kaskelot has featured in several TV and film productions, including The Three Musketeers and Shackleton. She is currently available for charter opportunities and filming requirements.
