L.K. Mitchell, a Nelson 56, was commissioned by Trinity House from A, Robertsons yard in 1978 and named after Captain Lawrence Kerr Mitchell who lost his life in 1974 whilst boarding the P&O ferry Eagle, which was in difficulty in Falmouth Bay. She has served as a pilot boat in Falmouth for 48 years and was transferred to the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners in 1988. She will retire from service in Falmouth in the Autumn and will be based in Campbeltown.
