Blue Saluki

Blue Saluki was commissioned by a couple of friends to race under RORC and also provide family cruising. She was entered for and completed the first Round Britain and Ireland race in 1966 with one of the owners and Leslie Williams (of later transatlantic and round the world fame) as crew, being the second monohull to finish. She raced up until the late 1980’s and completed three Fastnets.

She was advertised for sale by the surviving member. of the by now three owners, and we first saw her in a very tired and desperate condition in Haslar Joint Services marina in Gosport. Designed by Alan Buchanan, she was a later modification of both the Vashti class and the Saxon class, both successful boats. Seven or eight were built by R J Prior in Burnham on Crouch and most are still in commission.
